The average worker changes careers 3-5 times during their lifetime. It seems that change is now a constant, and that job titles appear and disappear on a daily basis: take our Canadian Postal Service Workers! Once a coveted job, it may indeed disappear entirely within our lifetime.

We expect that in the future five career changes in a lifespan will not be unusual. As resume strategists, we must develop methods, tools, and tactics to assist transitioning clients.

Stephanie Clark, professional member of Career Professionals of Canada will be leading this session. Stephanie launched her own career change in 2007, moving from the role of Administrative Assistant to the Director of Human Resources in a large municipality to that of owner of New Leaf Resumes. Now a recognized industry leader, with her resumes and cover letters recognized for excellence through awards and inclusion in major publications, Stephanie enjoys sharing her experience and insights with colleagues.

Consider these questions for the call:

  1. What are some of the career transition scenarios with which you have helped clients?
  2. What areas do your clients typically identify as significant hurdles? How do you address them in the resume or cover letter?
  3. What are your biggest challenges in writing career change resumes and cover letters? What methods do you use to overcome these challenges?
  4. Have you developed specific questions or questionnaires for clients to answer? What are these questions striving to unearth or identify?
  5. In addition to strategic resume support, what additional services or resources can we provide to help career change clients?
